I’m one of those people that can quite quickly dissolve into tears in intense situations, or when I’m moved deeply – either through sadness, frustration, stress or appreciating beauty (aka watching contemporary pieces on So You Think You Can Dance) or feeling deep connection and appreciation.
I often wish I had better control of myself, and that I could hold back. I often feel tears can diminish me in a situation, distract from the real issue going on, or embarrass other people around me. They often make me feel weak.
So when Russ Harris shed his tears so publicly on stage at the 2013 Happiness and Its Causes Conference earlier this year and then read this quote, I grabbed it with both hands and tucked it deep in a pocket somewhere close to my heart. Maybe you might get some comfort from tucking it too.
